Basement & Radon Solutions installed a Sub-Slab/Sub-Membrane Radon System for Micah. The radon suction line proposed was installed in the basement slab. After diagnostics for system performance, a 5″ diameter hole was drilled through the concrete slab to the earth below. This is where a suction pit was be created. A 4″ schedule 40 PVC suction line was installed in the slab and sealed. The suction line was then extended to the crawl space. A radon suction line was installed on the ground in the crawl space, where our radon barrier will cover the suction line and the earth in the crawl space. The suction line was then connected to the basement suction line and was extended to the right exterior of the home. The radon fan was mounted on the right exterior of the home with the vent pipe extending to above the roofline to expel the radon gas safely. A manometer gauge (homeowner radon fan monitoring vacuum gauge) was installed on the suction line pipe in the basement. Varmint and rain guard PVC exhaust caps are installed on all Basement & Radon Solutions exterior radon systems that prevent rain, debris, small animals and birds from entering the vent pipe, guarding and extending the life of your radon system. If desired the exterior system can be painted in the future for added aesthetics. This 4″ piping system will reduce radon levels in the home up to 33% opposed to using a 3″ suction line pipe. We also installed a Radon System Alarm, they are now required on all newly installed residential radon systems. This unit is a vacuum monitoring device utilizing piezo resistive pressure sensor (PPS) technology. This alarm will provide an audible and visual indication to alert the homeowner when the radon system is not moving sufficient air in the event of a power loss to the system. Lastly, we preformed a post test for Micah that came back at 2.8 pCi/l!
