Basement & Radon Solutions, BRS Pros did an encapsulation for Monroe’s crawl space. We started by using our spray foam. It’s a Class A fire rated polyurethane closed cell spray foam insulation which was sprayed on the rim joist and sill plates. It prevents air infiltration (unlike fiberglass insulation) and will insulate the wood band plate (rim joist) above the masonry foundation wall. Closed cell foam insulation (moisture and air will not penetrate this product) will fill and seal cracks, cavities and joints. Fiberglass insulation will not perform to prevent air infiltration. This product application will reduce cold spots in the floor adjacent to the main level walls. We installed fiber glass insulation in the crawl space. The insulation is approximately 3 1/2 thick which offers an R-11 insulation factor (code compliant for new construction). The insulation was hung approximately 6″ from the top of the interior masonry foundation wall to provide a termite inspection and will cover wall to approximately 4″ off the ground. We also installed our Dimple Shield along with our 15 mil liner. Dimples Shield is a heavy duty 20-mil underlayment on the ground below the 15 mil vapor barrier. It protects from puncture/wear and improves water movement due to the dimpled design. Adding the dimple drainage mat to our 15-mil reinforced ground liner gives homeowner 35-mil protection. Our 15 mil liner is walk on/store on white 100% woven reinforced vapor barrier. We also installed our Radon Ready System under the floor liners. A radon piping system was installed. The piping system will be used in the future when the home is tested for radon gas and requires a complete radon system. After that, we installed our 9-mil white 100% woven reinforced wall liner on the walls and piers in the crawl space. The wall liner is mechanically fastened/sealed to within 6″ of the top of the crawl space foundation wall. Lastly, we put in a Hygrometer. This is a remote temperature and relative humidity meter stand alone unit with one remote sensor. This wireless remote sensor was mounted in the crawl space. It will give an accurate reading of the humidity in the crawl space. It was a pleasure helping Monroe make his home happy, healthy, and safe again!”
